When I boot up windows it just displays a black screen I stead of my dock need some help

I have a dell inspiration 5000 and it has windows 7. When I boot it up and go past tube lock screen it displays a black screen and my mouse.. I can boot into safe mode but that's it... I would restore my computer but there are too many important files on my drive to just erase. I need help figuring this out.
