Hi there,

I'm looking for second opinions and thoughts on the current build I've created. I'm looking to make a new PC that will effectively handle intensive video editing and multitasking while also being able to run high end PC games.

The price range I'm shooting for is around $1500 Canadian, I've been able to make a build that is at about $1700.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Well using my build + the CPU (i put in the faster CPU - was 13 cents more) / motherboard you have selected (minus my CPU cooler also) it would put it at about $1480.

Still a bit over 1500 though. Also didn't add the wireless card so have to add about 30 more for that.

If you're trying to lower the price then you can make a few tweaks and not sacrifice a whole lot of performance. Are you planning on overclocking? If not, you can get a Xeon CPU which is essentially an i7 CPU that can't be overclocked and doesn't have the integrated GPU. You should also avoid the Corsair CX line for gaming systems. There are higher quality PSUs available for the money. Here's a build that comes a little closer to the $1500 budget:

I don't see much you can do to improve things. Any cuts in cost will cost you performance. In March/April AMD is coming out with their 390 series GPU's. Should be about 30% faster than the 980. Nvidia will respond sometime in the second half of 2015.

Intel is coming out with their Skylake that promises to be about 30% faster than the Haswell. It isn't due till June this year.

Right now, you are at the best you can do. As always, better performing stuff is just around the corner.

I think hes going to need the 16gb of ram for his video editing and what not...

Yes, you're right. I noticed that and updated my build, but you quoted it too fast. :)

Of course this takes out the option to overclock though.
