How do 2 NVidia GTX 280's in SLI perform at 1440x900 on ultra/high for new and old (2010-2015) games. They pair cost me £50 so I don't if I paid to much or good a good deal.
for a game that requires a dx11 capable card to run they will do nothing.....because they are dx10 cards.
Which games would they be, as I mainly play Guild Wars 2 CSGO DayZ and Minecraft, so would I be okay?

Yes you would be ok for those games, but may as well get a newer card that does support dx11, for 50 pounds you should be able to get something that will easily play all those games at 50+ fps and support dx11. Also im not sure if most of those games support SLI.
something like this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-r72501gd5 would perform similar to a gtx280 but has dx11 suport and will be ample for the games mentioned.
will run well at high settings at that resolution make sure your PSU can handle it and whats your CPU?
I have a 750w gold rate PSU (Bitfenix fury) and an intel i3-4130. If this will bottle neck please let me know as I got it a while back with my mobo (z87).

the CPU will bottleneck a lot, i would recommend getting a better card in general, dx10 is old and since the 280 is old than it means you wont take advantage of newer drivers and optimized games
