I have an older Compaq laptop that was running a Linksys wireless router. The router died. I bought this Netgear WNDR4500v2 to replace it. I have it working on 2 other computers,1 is a HP laptop and the other is a Dell desktop with out any issues. However on this Compaq, I cannot get it to connect to the internet.I have tried the Netgear built in trouble shooter, and it will attempt to repair it. But, I get the following problems.
1:DNS is invalid.
2. Cannot test DNS.
3. DHCP server inop.
4. Gateway is invalid.

I spent 2 hours on the phone with Netgears support, with no fix, they just wanted me to spend $129.99 for their remote access service to fix this problem. I just spent $130.00 on this router, why would I spend more? What warranty?

I have updated all the drivers with out any luck.
When I check the Network and sharing center, the Netgear network is there and has excellent signal strength.
It only has local access.
The bytes sent are increasing, but the received bytes are at "0"?
Also the IPV6 connectivity is "Limited"
The IPV4 is "local".
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Bill

You may need to use mixed mode wireless on your router in order for the old laptop to connect.

The old laptop likely cannot use wireless N unless you buy a newer USB wireless adapter for it.

Good call on not paying money for Netgear's 'remote access service', they are just trying to milk more $$ out of you.

g90814,
Thanks for the reply.
That is exactly what I did.
I used an external adapter from Netgear.
It works great, much faster than my Linksys was.
Thanks again,Bill
