I am planning on buying the dell s2340l as my display for new server build im working on and it only supports vga and hdmi. since my video card only has hdmi and dvi support i will connecting it to the monitor via hdmi. my question is though is there any way i can have the audio running through my sound card so i can use my 5.1 surround speakers?
can you use a sound card to output sound when using hdmi as your display?

Right click your volume control, click playback devices. Locate your sound card or the audio device you want to use then right click and set this as default device. You may need to go to the recording tab and re select your default communication device (mic)
