Is the athlon x4 860k a good cpu for a budget gaming build? Im planning to pair it with a 750 ti. Im wondering how it stacks up to the i3 4150 and we are on a very tight budget. The x4 solution is ~25 dollars cheaper and this actually makes a difference. I currently have the i3 4130 and a 750 ti from msi, will the x4 750ti combo be a close match to what i have? im building for someone. I know you can overclock the x4 and we are planning to do that in the future on a aftermarket cooler, after we buy the cooler though. What kind of overclock should i expect on the stock and what kind on a hyper 212 sort of cooler. Thanks in advance, always love the feed back from this site.

I currently have a 860k. I like it. I am getting a i5 4690k though now. I am using a gtx 760 and I am maxing the gpu before the cpu in most games. Like the guys said above the i3 4150 has a upgrade path for the future.

I would personally go with the 4150 and a 750 ti. The x4 860k is 25 bucks cheaper, but you will also need to upgrade the cooler for it as well, which will bring it up to the cost of an i3. With the i3 you have the option to upgrade to a 4690k or a 4790k which will ultimately perform better than any upgrade path that is currently available on the FM2+ platform, which only offers upgrades to a quad core cpu. The i3 is also better in single threaded performance, and should perform better in a lot of games, like I have said before it is nothing to scoff at.

even the overclocked athlon cannot match the i3-4150

the athlon may have more ghz but it is all on architecthure

i3 4150 = haswell= good for casual gamer

athlon x4 860 = steamroller= not very good

but the athlon has better performance overall

i3 has better single core performance

i3 cannot be overclocked

i have seen one 860 k overclocked at 4.7 ghz

the athlon 860 k is worth the the i3 4130 and i3 4150 ( if overclocked )

and the best cooler for athlon is - Hyper 212 EVO

Please bro researched a lot for this answer please give me the best answer

Do not beg for the best answer, it seems selfish and is not encouraged here. You can't come in begging for the best answer, if you are deserving of it then he will give it to you. But I've also researched this a lot and have hands on experience with both of these chips. Just because a chip has a higher clock speed doesn't mean much. Sure you can overclock the 860k but you aren't going to have much in terms of upgrade, while the i3 path has a much better path going up to the i5 and the i7. If you wanted a 6 or 8 core processor with the 860k you would have to get a whole new motherboard. The h97 and z97 motherboards will also support the new generation of processors that should be coming soon.
