Opinion on my build (12 Feb 2015)

Intel i7 4770K
Geforce GTX 980
ASUS Z87 Pro
Corsair Vengeance 2*4GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Corsair VS550 PSU
HP w1907 (already have it)

Solution
Its fine doesn't get too much better than that for gaming. Its complete and utter overkill for a 900p monitor it would be overkill for a 1080p monitor. I would get a 1440p monitor if you want to use your system to its full potential.

I would not use a corsair VS it to power such a system. I hope you plan on a monitor upgrade the 980 is massive overkill for that monitors resolution. Otherwise get a better PSU, drop down to a 970 and get a 1080p monitor. ALso whats going to be the main use of the system? If you are just gaming get the 4690k and a Z97 board, if you really want an i7 go for the 4790k and a z97 board.

I agree i was assuming you already have that psu but if you dont it would be best to get something of higher quality for a nice system like that. 550 watts is enough for 980 the maxwell architecture is very efficient but 650watts would be better and probably add more longevity to the psu since you wont be running even close to its 650watts max.

A good 550w PSU is more than enough for a GTX 980(~171w under full load).. A good 750w PSU will run 980s in SLI.

bignasty it averages 171w under full load at stock. It spikes much higher than that.

Do you have the motherboard already? If not, have a look at the Z97-Pro instead. Similarly, if you don't have the 4770K already, the 4790K is only slightly more expensive (~£10 in the UK), clocked higher, and should overclock more. Having said that, the i5-4790K is probably more than enough for just gaming.

With regard to the PSU, the EVGA SuperNova NEX G2 750W is very good, not overly expensive, and often has a rebate on it (in the US). The Seasonic G-Series, and XFX XTR Pro series are also good, and not overly expensive.

I totally get what you are trying to say but I already got way over my budget for all of this so I'm not spending on a new monitor yet. One question though, what will happen if I use it for some time being i wanna make sure it wont damage my hardware or anything.
PS Gaming will be one of the thing I would be doing on my PC!

For now I will be using this monitor because of budget constraint. But can you explain why you advise z97 against the z87 Pro with the 4790k ?

Thanks for the heads up. I am definately considering changing it and I have just bought the processor, motherboard and RAM only. I m still thinking about whether to change my graphic card so that i could buy a new monitor

do not use the old intel i7 4770k ...get somes issues with overtemp

get a smart setup like i5 4690k / Z97 mobo / gskill sniper dual channel kit / good psu like
seasonic/xfx/antec hcg/evga B2-G2 / rosewill capstone
and get a gtx 970 4 gb ( 3.5G now HIHI!) because the gtx 980 is to expensive for the performance you got

do what this man says i was gonna throw it in but i didint know your budget and if your running games at 1080p yes get the gtx 970 if you are planning to go to like 4k get the 980. the hole 3.5gb thing is getting blown out of proportion but im still not comfortable with it.

even the gtx 980 is not sufficient for high resolution like the 4K ...you need 8 gb of vrm
if you go with 4k setup you should wait until the new release of the gtx 980 ti or something like that ..they will put 8 gb vrm for 4K setup

or you can buy two r9 290X with 8 gb of vrm
you will need too a 4K monitor...kind of expensive and some they do not have the g sync function yet

Guys, stay on track. The poster doesn't even have enough money to buy a 1080p monitor and you're talking 4K gaming.
@OP I assume you're Indian(because of the VS).
As a fellow Indian, I'd not recommend the 980. Taking an example of the ASUS Strix 970/980, the 980 is 20% more powerful than the 970 and it's priced at 48.5K vs 31.5K on Flipkart, a 1.53X excess price. Not worth at sub-1080p.
In regards to your build, I'd say the following configuration:

i5 4690(get K if you absolutely have to overclock; the price premiums don't seem worth it to me).
H/Z 97 from Asus or Gigabyte(Get microATX; saves a bit of money, as I've found the ATX only has some PCI-e x1 slots more, worthless in our case, and you save around 2K) depending on whether or not you're overclocking.
Seasonic M12II series power supply(it's modular, will help you keep your case uncluttered) of 620 watts.
Corsair Carbide 300R/Cooler Master HAF 912 Combat case for good cable management
