Hi All, my two year old Acer laptop is playing up and have been unable to resolve so in the hope that its software related I would like to create a new partition and use my recovery disks to recover into that while temporarily keeping the flaky installation going. When complete and running in the new partition I would delete the original.

10 years ago I used to be familiar with dong this sort of thing but its well gone now I'm afraid along with all my utilities on floppy disk!!

Can anyone advise if this is viable and what software I should use please?

OS:64bit Windows 7 Home Premium.
HDD: 300GB NTFS with approx 50% free.

Thanks for any help.

Its a V5-171. I had a look in disk management and there is a recovery partition. I do backup user data to a separate usb drive. Thanks for your help and advice. I'll give the recovery partition a try, any issues that I need to watch out for?
