Hello I recently dropped my Dell Inspiron N5010 and now windows will not boot up, and a message says Disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl alt del to reRecovery. I want to know if my hard drive is done and if I can recover my pictures and if so how?

When you boot your laptop listen for the hard drive. If you hear clicking then you know for sure the hard drive is shot. I would replace the drive anyway since the reliability is questionable at best. If the drive is making funky noises and you want to get it to boot for a short time to get data off try this. It may sound weird but it has saved a couple drives for me in the past. Take the hard drive out, Wrap it in paper towel, put in a freezer bag, place in freezer for 6-8 hours. The longer the better. Once done freezing quickly put it back in the pc and boot. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. Worth a try if your out of options.

I have the same trouble. I have a laptop Inspirion from Dell, and using the alt+del as it says to do it just repeats to the same message without going into a recovery mode. Is there a way to boot from a usb? I only have the factory disk, I put it in but still did not recover from it. I assume its a virus as my laptop had been running really slow for the past few months. I did install trendmicro on it, and just recently uninstalled McAfee.
