Would it be an okay idea to run two R9 290's off a 750W PSU?

I know that would likely be pushing it, but I have seen the R9 290 on sale for about $220 new. That didn't last long, but if I did see that price again before the R9 390 releases I might just go with a pair of those.

I would likely be running a 4k screen if I did this upgrade from the one GTX 580 I have. I didn't want the pain of SLI/X-fire before, but I driver support seems to have gotten better lately for that.

The clock on the poor GTX 580 seems to be running down for high/max settings as the screen tearing and low FPS move it into being stone age tech. The green team threw the 500 line under the bus on many things they gave to the 600 and up lines.

Sure the GTX 970 is nice, but it's not worth around $100 more per card than the R9 290.

Then again I might wait for the R9 390 and hope it just blows everything away for the price. Though I am sure the two R9 290s would still be the best value as two card sets ups are nearly every time over one card set ups.
