Hi all,

Knew here and also new to the latest games and hardware but have been googling like a man possessed over the last few days :)

The build is for work and gaming on my new dell U2715H 1440p monitor. Was a tough decision for that too and was close to paying the extra $300 and getting the ROG swift but w/e. It's a really nice monitor and as I am new to these latest games I am happy to start off trying to get 60 fps and then see how it goes and down the line possibly SLI the GPU's and buy a 144hz monitor.

I plan to overclock btw and I think the extreme 6 board looks great and also has sata express, m.2 and the only one i can see that has ultra m.2 so looks a really good value board. I liked the MSI gaming 7 but it doesn't have sata express which put me off. Obv asus pro is good but that's $80 more and doesn't have ultra m.2 and anyway screw asus :)

It will still seem really smooth and fast for me now and gives me the chance to improve on the system so I have chosen not to immediately SLI GPU's but either go with gtx 970 or 980 single card and then beast it up later when it's time :)

For now 256GB SSD is sufficient and I am opting for core i7 even with my budget build. I don't do rendering stuff but I do want to keep this a few years without having to regret not getting the core i7 in the future so my minds made up on that although it did take me a while ha.

I put together 2 builds as 2k US was my initial budget and the cheaper build is under that. I live in Thailand so parts are more expensive.

Something I would like any of you experts to confirm is whether I have got the PSU right bearing in mind I am planning to SLI. I am wondering if the cooler master would be fine for both builds or would I be better paying the extra for the corsair HX850i for the gtx 980 SLI plan? I believe it probably is but I have read that the 980 sli would need slightly more. It's $70 difference so a decent saving but don't want to cheap out on it if it brings the system quality down.

Probably been asked to death but will the cheaper cooler master air fan be ok for some overclocking? It's really cheap so I could always upgrade down the road.

Ok sorry this is getting quite long...

the better build is $500 more expensive and it just depends on finances in a couple of weeks when I plan to order from a shop in Bangkok. So I just want to know what experts think of the builds and whether the parts go together well or have any glaring problems or crappy parts.

Appreciate any feedback positive or negative..fire away :)

Both builds are excellent. Cooler Master V series PSU is Tier 1, the best one there is, and 750W is a perfect measure for 970 SLI.

Likewise, 850W is perfect for 980 SLI.

My only gripes with both builds are:

- you are getting i7 in both of them to stay future proof as long as possible, yet you included 8GB of memory - following the same logic, 16GB would seem right (mind you, neither i7 nor 16GB are required for gaming and are merely a future-proofing option).

- Never liked WD Green series due to short warranty and prone to failures. Get red series for pure storage, works excellent. Blue is another good option. Black heats too much and is very loud, so not recommended for storage along an SSD.

- Cooler Master Hyper 212X will be just fine as long as you don't go crazy on overclocking. If you do have plans for hardcore OC, liquid cooling is your best bet.

Dude both systems are great with zero chance of conflict between components!!! The 980 is a very very beastly card, it`s the best gaming card new money can buy now but the 970 is also very nice... Both are good for 1440p gaming but the 980 will do it at much higher fps...

As for the PSU on the second build, the amount wattage is fine but the cooler master pat is what worries me, rather look into Seasonic or Corsair for both!

Everything is tip top, I would say the 1st build is the complete and ultimate gaming rig but the 2nd one will give you the right amount of satisfaction!! It`s not easy man, but if you can go for no 1 just do it!! Please...for me!!!???

thanks for the responses. I will take your advice on the HDD and go for the red. They have 2 and i'm guessing the cheaper one is 5400rpm

Western Digital WD Red NAS Hard Drive 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 3.5" 64MB IntelliPower

Western Digital WD Red Pro NAS Hard Drive 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 3.5" 64MB 7200RPM

The 7200 is $60 more so maybe go for that in my no1 option and the 5400 in no2.

I am still wondering then if the cooler master V series PSU would be fine for the 980 SLI....

I guess what I am thinking is what would be the best value for the no1 system while keeping the price the same. The 5400 WD red and the corsair PSU or 7200 WD red and the cooler master V series PSU. Any opinions on that?

Oh with regards to memory I think it doesn't matter too much as I can easily add another 8GB in future.

And yeah I am going to try and go for option 1 if possible :)

Think I have decided on this spec. I can add more ram and HDD if/when required and from reviews about the PSU it seems like sufficient if I want to add another 980 down the road.

thanks a lot :) decided it's worth going for the extra SSD but am also going to look at Plextor 256GB M6e PCIe Solid State Drive to make use of the ultra m.2 but will read up a bit more on that but looks like they give excellent performance increase from standard SSD's.
