I want to dual boot windows 8 on a 128gb ssd and ubuntu on a 128gb ssd(separate) and use a HDD as my storage device or boot OS.
Is this possible?
Does windows automatically recongnise and store data on the HDD?

Solution
You'll need to go the BIOS to set the boot priorities. Note that some motherboard comes with F8 shortcut to select boot drive without going to the BIOS. Each OS will not see each other in the boot environment.

Plug in an SSD only --> install windows 8
Plug in next SSD only --> install ubuntu
Now plug all three set the first boot device as win8 SSD and boot into windows. --> go to disk management --> initialize and partition and format the HDD. and it'll be ready to use in both Win 8 and Ubuntu.

When you need to boot into Ubuntu, just set the first boot device as the SSD which has Ubuntu.

yes it is possible if one ssd fails(though not likely) you can just select from boot menu the other drive and boot up with that.
you can use both as storage no problem, a better solution would be to get a cheap £40 7200rpm wd 1TB drive and just use that as you storage and keep the ssd drives for either video editing or games.

Do you have to go into the bios or does the bootmanger let you choose what os to boot up to?
