Hey there everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my GTX 580 to something new.

I've been looking at the GTX 970 and was pretty sure that was going to be what I was going to get, but then I started reading about a lot of people using it for much higher resolutions then I ever plan for.

I'm looking to run a steady 60 fps on plenty of games, the most taxing would be Arma 3, but I also don't want to have to update my card in a year or so again.

Can I get away with a GTX 960? or is there something else I haven't seen. Any help is appreciated and please if you could explain the reason behind why I should do this or not do that, or buy this or not buy that, it would also be much appreciated. I'm very newbie when it comes to all this stuff.

I'd get the GTX 970, spend the little extra now and you won't have to upgrade again as soon, saves you money in the long run. Either do that or wait another couple of months and look into a r9 3XX by amd maybe.

Right now the GTX 970 is one of the best price/performance cards (along side the 290 and 290x but those use so much more power).

I was in a similar situation at the end of last year. I'm only interested in 1080p, I'd like a steady 60 Hz and I don't plan to get a new card for atleast 3 years, ideally 4.

So, I spent extra on an MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G, and an i7 4790k. Then I heard about these VRAM issues and felt a bit ripped off. Only time will tell if I'm affected by those.

Based on my experience so far, I would fully recommend a GTX 970 if it was 15 to 20% cheaper. I current prices (£290+), I'm not sure

The most demanding game I've played so far is Crysis 3. I ran it very close to maximum settings at 1920x1080 and got framerates between the high 40s and the magical 60. It performed extremely well.

The most recent games I've played are Grid Autosport and Sniper Elite 3. Grid Autosport is at maximum settings with the 4k texture pack and plays flawlessly. Sniper Elite 3 was almost at maximum (I had to turn Supersampling down a notch) but that performed magnificently. I was surprised that it could look so amazing but still play at a constant 60 Hz.

I briefly tried The Witcher 2, just to see how it ran with everything but Ubersampling on. That was a constant 60 Hz aswell, though I didn't do much in the game.

I've not looked into the 960 much, but I've read quite a few comments about it not being worth the money. I've read that many people are sticking with older cards instead of upgrading to it. Of the few reviews that I've seen from companies and established reviewers, it generally gets decent ratings. I'd avoid it myself.
