Keyboard Mouse Latency Question for New Rig

Hello,

I just bought a new monitor for gaming and I have a bit of a noob question..

My monitor is BenQ XL2420Z. Is it okay to plug my keyboard USB into the monitor instead of the actual computer? Will this cause latency while gaming? Also, if I plug my mouse into the keyboard, will that cause latency?

Ideally, I would plug my mouse into the keyboard and my keyboard into the monitor but I don't know if this will cause lag/latency.

Please enlighten me!

We might be talking milliseconds difference in response times here, which doesn't seem like much but I didn't buy a GTX 980 and a 144hz monitor to go wasting precious milliseconds on a stupid mistake like plugging my mouse into the wrong usb port :) I'm just a humble gaming enthusiast trying to get the most out of my system. I will try both but I was hoping to get some technical info on the matter.
