Hi Guys,

I am currently selling my ps4 to fund upgrading my PC a little. I have a Xbox one and smart tv for entertainment purposes but want to be able to game on my pc as well as alot of my new work friends game on PC.

I currently have an AMD FX 6300 processor clocked at 4.1Ghz and a Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX660 2GB graphics card.

One of my friends has said that all i need to upgrade is my graphics card to be gaming on high/ultra settings and has reccomended i get a GTX 970 (one he has just bought).

Is this the case or should i look to upgrade my processor to the fx8350?

I should have about £400 after selling my ps4 and games.

I would be greatful for any advice given.

Thanks

Aaron

You'd need a new PSU as well as a GPU then. Get those and you should be able to take your CPU upto 4.5GHZ easy if your VRM' stay cool. Even if you keep the overclock like it is the R9 290 will help massively with your FPS.

Yes there should be a large difference the 970 is quite a bit more powerful than the 660. The only cpu upgrade path i would recommend for you is a switch to intel but the performance increase you would get from that is not worth spending the money to get a new intel mobo and cpu in my opinion at least not yet amd cpu's can still hold there own weight.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice guys. The power supply I have at the moment is a OCZ-CXS500W-UK CoreXStream Series 500w.

I have tried to overclock the processor a bit already but as soon as I go above 4.1ghz I get blue screened. I'm a complete novice at overclocking so don't really know how to adjust all the voltages and stuff to make it stable.

I would not overclock on that psu its kind of low quality i would recommend you get something better especially if thats a few years old.
