Hello!

I am looking for an affordable monochrome laser printer that, if possible, includes a colour-enabled scanner. I do not know much about printers, nor vendors. I'm sure that I want it to be laser-based, because I would print many (text) documents (classes...). I'd also find it nice if it had a scanner, because I often need it to, for instance, duplicate "legal" papers and such things. Thus, it doesn't need to be a professional-grade scanner.

For 69€ -which is a very low price-, I have found the Ricoh SP 203S. I had heard about HP and Canon, but not about Ricoh, which makes me a bit nervous. I have searched for reviews about this seemingly fantastic model, but haven't found any - which makes it worse. Could you please tell me if Ricoh is a good brand, and if this particular model is good?

On the other hand, for around 100€, I have found the Samsung M2070 Xpress. As far as I can tell, it's essentially the same as the other model. On the linked (official) product page, there are some "extras" listed, such as those remote-related things (Google Cloud,...), whatever they are. If I have understood what they basically are, I don't need them: I will only print from the computer, connecting both devices with a cable,... the old way.

As a note, anything like FAX, remote control (Wi-fi and Ethernet),... all those things, may be discarded.

With this description of my requirements, and, in particular, these two models, could you please explain whether any of the two is better, and why? I would also welcome any opinions with regards to the brands. I understand that opinions relate to personal experience, and that almost everything has failed to someone. However, it would still be nice to know the reputation, the support they offer (drivers,...),... that kind of things.

Oh!, and, I won't play with it with anything other than Windows. No penguin, unfortunately.

Ricoh has been around for years, but they do more business machines than the home market here in the US.

I owned a laser printer from Samsung a few years back, and a few months later, the device started to spew smoke with each print. Samsung did ship me a remanufactured replacement, which worked for a few more months, and then became completely dead literally a few days after the warranty ended. Based on my experience, I will not buy another Samsung laser printer, but of course, YMMV.

I am sure the Ricoh will be fine. I would also look at Brother, as I have two of their printers, and they are diehards, and one has lasted over 5 years (the only reason I bought a 2nd one was that I wanted a network printer). They do make...

Thanks! I have finally bought the Ricoh model, and, for the record, it's working great - at least, the printer part; I have not tested the scanner nor the copier yet. Inside the package, there is the device, which was already charged with a toner cartridge. However, an USB cable for connecting it to the computer is not provided: you have to buy one. It's a USB A-to-B cable.

Thanks again for your advice. Regards.
