Hey guys, I've made a similar thread but ran out of people answering my questions. On this link I'm going to show you I want you to say if you think this is genuine and safe to use on a custom build? I've seen people commenting (verified purchases) on the sale saying they built their own PC and it worked perfectly: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Windows-professional-64bit-Dell-branded/dp/B00N3XFBYG/ref=sr_1_1?m=A17JZ1VABQG12N&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1423869155&sr=1-1

That's the link. I'm using this CD and key tomorrow and I'm a bit nervous about doing so, just wanted a thorough opinion on this.
In the place I work I've used these kind of CD's and keys on non-branded Dell machines and they've worked, but my custom build is quite high spec (970, I7 4790K, Gigabyte Z97X-GAMING 7) was wondering if that made a massive difference?

I appreciate if you take the time to help me. Thank you. :)

The key should work fine and windows should install no problem. It just is illegal. It is almost the same as torrenting. Microsoft never seems to care about either of those though.

On the other hand, you intended to do the right thing and the company selling those is the one that should be in trouble. If they sell you software that works on your system when they should not, it is their fault.

It is a licence violation to use that on a non-Dell branded machine, so it may be deactivated at any time. Use at your own risk.

Correct, by using that copy, you will be breaking the agreement microsoft had with dell. TBH I am not sure how those are being sold. However it should work because you can install OEM's on anything.

Very true. I'm probably going to give it a go once it all comes in tomorrow, at some point I will buy a 'better' copy of Windows. When I enter it on the software checker it does say that to install the ISO for this key I need to contact the original manufacturers? I'm hoping this doesn't mean the key has been previously used but.. who knows. ><

There's loads of people on Amazon and Ebay that have been doing it for quite a while. Has the licence between Dell and Microsoft expired or something? Surely they'd be doing it a bit more on the down low if it was illegal?

Depends. If it's just a regular cell Dell reinstall CD, it wouldn't activate. It would have the OEM SLP built in. However, it could be one of those upgrade disks that were being given out in 2009 as part of the free upgrade campaign for vista users.
As I recall, those were full OEM or retail licenses. A fact rarely noted at the time. You could install those on anything you wished, not just the upgrade machine. That would be good. Of course, they could be counterfeit as well. Hard to tell from a picture.

I'm 100% getting Windows 10, looks amazing.. It seems Microsoft always seem to release a not so good, then good, then not so good, then good. Xp - Good, Vista - not good, 7 - good, 8 (not 8.1) not so good, 10.. it will be good. :D
