Hi all,

So I'm in the market for a gaming laptop and through several evenings of looking through reviews etc, I have come down to three laptops.

The msi GE60 can be found for about $1200AUD and has a gtx 850m.
One has a gtx 860m (Asus G551JM at $1499) and the other a gtx 870m (MSI GT60 Dominator 3k at $1695.)

I live in Australia which is why these prices may seem inflated, but I was wondering if it is worth it upgrading to the gtx 860m or gtx 870m for the price difference. One concern I have with the 3k msi one is that it may be a little bulky for moving around campus, not sure, maybe I'm just being a whimp haha. If there is perhaps a better laptop buying option that I have missed it would also be greatly appreciated if it were to be pointed out.

PS: Also I'm not sure which category this is supposed to go but a laptop is a system right? lol

Thanks

I would not want less than a GTX 860M. It is similar in power to the GTX 750ti. Is Clevo/Sager available in Australia? If so, look at them. New higher end models are coming out with the GTX 970M (although they may not have percolated down-under yet) I would wait for them if the budget allows and, in any case, their arrival may lower the 860M prices.

Hey, thanks for your answer. So I had a look around and we do in fact have clevo laptops available here from www.affordablelaptops.com.au I found a P650SE and some others like p157sm for about $1880 and $1850 respectively. They have gtx 970m and it sounds like a pretty good deal. Apparently you can also upgrade the gpu later on as well but I'm not sure. If getting one of these more expensive models mean that it will last longer I think I'll be willing to pay the extra $$. What do you guys think? Worth it?

I own the MSI GE60, but mine is the one with a 860m. As others have said, I would not recommend going below a 860m. It is also a good size for potability, while also not being to crazily expensive. That said, if you can find a laptop you like with a 970m that is within your price range, that card is fantastic.

Thank you so much for your answers. BTW I have a desktop with a gtx 680 which is comparable to the 970m. I was wondering if it would just be best to then sell my desktop and get that laptop?
