I'm thinking about building a nas and using the software freenas.
Why does freenas require 8gb of ram when other nas's on the market only have 2gb of ram?
The 8GB requirement is if you are using the ZFS filesystem (which you definitely want to do). ZFS needs a lot of RAM (to work efficiently) as it caches a lot of information.
