Screen goes dark for few seconds, no idea what's wrong

Hi guys!
Pretty much no matter what I'm doing, at completely random intervals, my monitor goes dark (not off, and no "signal lost" warning) for maybe three seconds, then comes back on without a problem. If I'm playing a game, the game continues as if nothing happened, even while I'm not getting visuals. I've run a few diagnostics, and not gotten anything out of the ordinary (temps normal, no power spikes or drops, no driver errors).

The thing that's strangest is that it happens totally randomly. It's happened twice while typing this post, but only once over the hour I just spent in Far Cry 4.

My best guess is the CPU being overloaded/bottlenecked by the graphics card for a second or two, but I really have no idea. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Note: all drivers are up to date, nothing is overclocked, and all the pieces of the rig are fairly new.

The same thing used to happen to me. What I did was restart the computer, and while it was restarting, went under my desk and behind my computer/monitor and made sure the cable was all of the way in. Then I left the computer on for about 10 minutes without doing anything, and it stopped.

Thanks for the reply!
I tried checking/securing the DVI cable, but nothing changed. So I took it out, replaced it with VGA, and haven't had the problem since!

I'm so glad you figured it out! It must have been a faulty cable.
