I have got a used MacBook Pro 2009. The MacBook is missing the screws for the rear cover as well as the HDD bracket and the HDD, all of which I have found on eBay. Now if this was a PC, I would be fine. Install HDD, plug in windows usb and install OS. But this is my first real interaction with Mac, especially at a hardware/ OS installation level. So now what? How do I get the OS, how do I install it (USB or MacBook had dvd drive) and is it a simple 'format HDD, install and just keep clicking next until you see a desktop' like windows is?

Thanks in advance

Solution
You buy the OS from Apple. You need version 10.6 as later versions are only supplied via the Mac App Store. It's only £14.99 in the UK, so a good deal; you can then upgrade to newer versions of the OS (Mavericks or Yosemite) for free. This comes on a DVD. You can burn it to a USB stick, but need a Mac to do so. Easiest is to install from the DVD if you have a USB DVD drive: http://store.apple.com/uk/question/answers/product/MC573Z/A/can-i-install-from-my-external-dvd-drive-as-my-internal-is-toast/Q9T9KY479C2XDCHKC
