Hey
I have a pc with a pretty old motherboard (it came in a pre build pc so i don't know, it has one gpu slot) but with:

- asus nvidia gtx 750ti 2 gb
- intel i7-3770 3.4 ghz
- 10gb ram 1333mhz
- 1 tb hdd
- xfx ts550w 80 plus bronze

I am planning to buy a new motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VI HERO,s1150 with a new graphic card: Asus STRIX GTX970 DCII OC 3.5GB. and a few moths later a ssd or a new cpu.

so my questions are:
- will my psu have enough power to support my gtx 750 ti and the gtx 970?
- and if it is better to buy a new cpu which one? or if mine is good for now, which ssd is the best to buy (120gb)

- And will all components work together at the end?

You definitely don't need a better cpu or motherboard for that matter. Upgrading your cpu in significant way would require a step up to x99 which very expensive and won't really help for gaming Your xfx can easily handle a gtx 970 as the Maxwell architecture is very power efficient. And yes they are fully compatible, just remember that lga 1150 Motherboard requires a new processor if you decide to do that

The upgrade you propose is not cost-effective. Your performance increase will be very modest for all it will cost. Wait at least one more generation.

If you plan to use the GTX750ti for PHysix, then 550 will do the job, with the 970, because you have a good PSU (assuming that the GTX750ti does not need a PCI-e supplementary power connector)

thanks for all the reactions :)

To sum up:
— If i buy a new motherboard my old processor won't fit
— from gtx 750 ti to gtx 750 ti with gtx 970 won't be a good upgrade if i look at the price (i'm using a dual monitor setup)
— i really don't have to upgrade my cpu
— and upgrading to a ssd is always a good idea

From personal experience I'd STRONGLY recommend a 240+ Gb SSD. My 256 has only 93Gb free for OS and applications (and some savegames) only. It needs to have about 20% free for efficient TRIM.

Everything you stated is a good sum up of what we said here today. For dual monitors, one video card will be more than enough. I7 3770k is still a beast and no graphic card configurations that it supports can bottleneck it. If your a interested in recommendations, Gigabyte g1 970 and crucial MX 100 256gb ssd would be mines. Once you go ssd, you will never want to boot os from HDD again.

Al47jar3d thanks man,
Although i still don't get why i can't trasnfer my processor to a new motherboard?? But If thats how it is i will just buy the gtx 970 with a good ssd.

Thanks for all the quick reactions

You can if you want to, just remember that Motherboard don't have a big say in the performance of the rig. Processor and gpu do. The Motherboard needs to be lga 1155 motherboard as the newer motherboard are 1150 which is five pins less making your processor incompatible. I do recommend changing motherboard and ssd at the same time as they both generally require the Os to be reinstalled which is kind of a pain and you essentially kill to birds with one stone.

okay i will do that, but the motherboard is 1150 and my processor is 1150 from what i could find or am i wrong here? Because when i buy a motherboard now with a ssd and the gtx 970. in a few moths or a year i can buy another gtx 970 for crossfire.is that impossible? Or would that be a really bad move for the money it cost?

No, i7 3770k is a lga 1155 sandy bridge processor. And yes there are good z77 motherboards. You cant crossfire 970s as crossfire is a amd technology, but you can sli them if your Motherboard supports it and your power supply can provide the necessary power. Sli 970 is very good assuming you have a beyond 1080p screen, ideally 1440p or 144 hz.

Thnx rookie_, ak47jar3d and donkeyoatie.
This is my last post then, I'm goin to buy the Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 with the gtx 970 and a Samsung ssd (i will consider how big because of the money) and then after a few months a second gtx970 for sli. Please can someone confirm for the last time that this will work perfectly (because it's very expensive for me).

Thank you guys a lot!!!
