Hello! I am young IT expert, so i take care about home network. I have a problem that internet connection freezes and hangs. We have modern, brand new cables and devices...our ISP has brought internet to us by optic wire. Then optic is converted to LAN cable, and it goes directly to our first wireless router. (ASUS RT-N14U) which is aprox half year in use. Next to this router is notebook which is connected by wired cable. From there there is 15 metres cable to another switch, which connects next mini router (TP-LINK TL-WR702N), SMART TV and next notebook by LAN cable to the INTERNET. So the problem is that sometimes internet freezes for 30 seconds on all devices (android smartphones, wired or wireless conected notebook). I tried everthing. Restarting router. Bought new devices, changed cables to brand new and replaced all possible wifi conection by wired connection and chose also LAN cables CAT6. Wifi chanels optimized, no possible disturbance. Our actual internet speed is 10Mbit download and 1Mbit upload. I also plan to change ISP, to the new, faster (300Mbit download and 30Mbit upload). But i still think that problem is in our home network. All values in routers are set to default. I haven´t changed anythink, can someone advice me something what to do? THANKS IN ADVANCE EVERYONE

If you know your internet service is good and your problems are with the whole network's connection to the internet, all signs point toward the gateway device. You will know for sure when you change your internet though. Does that ASUS have any debugging or logs you can look at to see if it is losing its internet connection?

Thank you for advice, i will see the log, but i have to choose the correct information in it because there are soooo many. I also read simmilar topics and found out that overheating can make problems, i bought fans connected and glued it to all internet devices that make heat. When internet connection hangs, all lights on router are OK. Also on the modem that convert optic to the LAN. Nothing appears that internet connection has failed. Websites take long to load or say that chech your interner connection, comunication aplications fail, and the indicator in windows says limited, and if i am connected on both wifi and LAN cable to my notebook it says limited on both connections. Sometimes i also restart the router. But no change happens.

The first question should always be "do you get this issue when you by-pass your router?"

The next thing that comes to mind is a lot of low end routers can have bad firmware with bugs. Have you made sure you have the newest firmware? The last low hanging fruit is "is someone using a lot of bandwidth, especially something like BitTorrent?". Many routers will crap out if there are too many connections.

This router wasn´t the cheapest one, it is mid-end router. Also flashed the newest firmware. I don´t use any downloaders like Bittorrent...
I changed the router recently, but the old one was not making too much issues
I have also been checking the log since the morning, but when connection refuses, nothing is written there
When i play some online game, i can see that sometimes the connection hangs for second, but it happens often
I plan to change ISP, but still dont know if the problem is on my side
I can´t speak english very well, and don´t understand the word by-pass...
