Hi everyone ! I had just connected a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R motherboard to my case since i had spare parts and wanted to build a second machine. The PSU is relatively new, couple of months old, a 550W active pfc LC Power unit. It's not a high-end supply but it's ok. The machine runs on a E8400 Core2Duo with an aftermarket cooler (thermal compound changed today), 2GB of 1066mhz OCZ DDR2 - put in just to see if the machine is going to work; Radeon HD4850.

Now, the problem. The PC boots up fine, Windows 7 64bit runs fine, exepct for the internet. In Device manager i can see the drivers for the adapter are fine, it's a Realtek LAN, but in the bottom right corner of the tray, it says no Internet (No connections available.) When i troubleshoot, it says that the ethernet cable isn't connected (cable works fine on the other PC).
On the ethernet port itself, where you plug the cable in, both LEDs stay on - constantly, with the cable plugged in and out. Even when i try to restart the PC.

Now, the second issue. When i try to shut down the PC, it shuts down, but turns back on again, all by itself. I have to hold the power button in order to shut it down.

Please, any ideas ! Thanks to all !

Thanks for your answer, but nope, there's no WI-FI here. Anyway, the troubleshooting says the ethernet cable isn't connected, so..

Thats wierd. I've never seen a wired lan say that connections were available. I see lan cable is unplugged plenty LoL.
Does the led light on the lan port itself come on to indicate a connection? They are located left & right of there the cable's tab will be when plugged in.

Compare the cable ends manually, the order of the 8 wires on both connectors should be identical.

You can try the specific driver and the diagnostic utility from gigabyte here:

I did try both the drivers and the diagnostic utility, but nothing. As for the leds on the LAN port, they are both ON, all the time, as I said before. It think it should be the orange stays on and the green blinks with activity, but it isn't. The cable itself can't be a problem because it works on another machine.

Thanks for your reply. I am actually using a HDD that was in a similar machine with Windows already installed on it, but i figured it wouldn't cause any problems, because the the HDD was previously connected to a very similar MOBO, ep35-ds3p. i was going to evetually do a fresh install, but i wanted to see if everything worked.

do you think that a fresh copy of Windows could take care of both the Ethernet and the "start on its own" problem ?

Thank you

Hi. I tried EVERYTHING. Fresh Windows install, CMOS reset, Optimized defaults in BIOS, new PSU to eliminate power problems, new drivers for the LAN (it's shown as installed and working properly in Device Manager). basically everything failed to produce results. The only thing that went away was the restart afte shutdown. Now it shuts down OK and doesn't turn back on. The LAN is the only thing faulty at this moment. And the most intersting thing about it is that the LED's on the port are constantly ON. As soon as I turn the PSU switch on, they lit up, with the computer still off. So it seems like a short circuit somewhere. I also tried disconecting the last 4 pins on the 24pin MOBO supply connector, and changing the ATX connector with another one. Still no results. The solution is simple, a new PCI LAN card, but it bothers me to know that the onboard LAN port is faulty for no reason, the MOBO worked until a week ago, and the fact that it just randomly stopped turning itself on. Something's wrong.

i guess that's it. a good PCI card, hopefully nothing else is bad besides the onboard LAN. thanks for the answers!
