I tried to do my research when looking for RAM. I found the website crucial. This was the site (http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/aspire-z5700). So I bought G.Skill DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 CL 9-9-9-24 1.5v 4gb. It was what the website said. Fast forward to today and I tried to install it but my computer goes into a bootloop. I tried updating BIOS but I do not think I'm doing it right.
The ram I tried to instal was G.Skill ddr3-1600 pc3-12800 cl 9-9-9-24 1.5v.

If you bought more ram to run aside the current memory fitted to the laptop.
You should of checked the frequency in Mhz that the old ram was running at and what it`s latency values were set as for the running speed.

If it`s the case then it is likely that the existing ram along with it`s latency timings cannot operate at the same frequency and timings of the new ram.
You should also check that the voltage requirements of the old vs the new memory sticks are the same.
A tip here is if you push memory to a higher operating speed. two things may manually have to be adjusted, than leaving the bios/ motherboard to auto detect them.

So a manual adjust of the voltage, and latency values may be needed.
The error you see is often due to a timing error between two brands or types of memory.
That can cause the boot loop when loading windows, it normally gets halfway into windows and simply resets without any error message or Blue screen of death with an error code.

Make sure if the old memory is slower, that the Memory stick is placed in the first memory slot of the z5700 laptop.
Put the second stick ect in the second slot. In the bios manually set the speed rating of the first set of memory.
And set the latency values.
If the voltage differs from the First set to the second set the higher voltage.

I say this but when it comes to laptops on most the bios is pretty basic and does not allow you to make such changes.
But if yours does then give it a try.

I forgot to add a couple of details. It's an all-in-one computer.
The installed ram was x2 Samsung 240pin 1333mhz 2gb. I bought x2 4gb g.skill ones. I tried just installing the g.skill and it boot loops. I made sure not to mix and match the ram.

Hello,

The issue is with your new memory (GSkill). Your system does support upto 8GB. If you install the two 2GB along with the two 4GB modules you are crossing that limit and that is one reason why it isn't working. Moreover, single 4GB modules will not work in your system at all as max per slot is 2GB.

Try this: Remove the 2GB modules and install just the 4GB modules (90% it won't work). If it works then good for you. If doesn't then return the memory and go with 2GB 1333MHz as the samsung memory.

I checked crucial.com and it said that I should be able to install up to 8gb of DDR3 PC3-12800 • 9-9-9-24 • 240-pin DDR3-1600 • 1.5V. I found some G.Skill on sale that matched these specs 2x4gb. When i went to upgrade my ram I noticed that the ram installed was 2x2gb samsung PC3-10600u 9-10-B0 running at 1333mhz. First I tried installing both G.Skill and the computer was stuck on the acer logo. Next i tried 1 samsung and 1 G.Skill which also got stuck at the acer logo. I also tried just installing 1 G.Skill and can only get it to show the windows logo but it stops after a second and reboots. I also tried 1 G.Skill in all four slots and still the same thing. Mixing and matching ram and slots did not help either. Computer will run fine with the samsung ram. I then updated the BIOS to see if there were any setting i could tweak but the BIOS does not let me change voltage or ram speed. The only memory setting in the BIOS was 'memory hole remapping', 'video memory size', 'frequency voltage control >enable clock to all PCIE, Spread Spectrum'
