I really want to buy the Z97 Extreme 4 bundle but I looked at the reviews and wowzers everyone is ticked at ASRock. From DOA's to just plain sucking in multiple ways. Does the Gaming 5, Gaming 7, or AR LGA fair any better, and it it worth the extra $40? On a budget but I don't want my computer to die and overclocking features are nice but I think I can figure it out without them. I am thinking of OCing it to about 4.6ghz max if that helps anything.

From what I've read the general perception of ASRock is that they're cheaper builds of ASUS that can be a little unreliable in terms of quality. If you get a good one then you've basically got an ASUS board cheap, but you could end up with a bad one.

The MSI Gaming 7 is a solid board. I very nearly bought one, but favoured the reputation of the MAXIMUS VII Ranger instead - but on performance they're equal. So for that bundle I'd give my vote to the Gaming 7. The fact that there are two MSI boards in the selection shows how well they've developed in terms of performance and reliability.

As mentioned, the AsRock boards have a lot of issues. The only time you should buy an AsRock board is if you're looking for a Z77 Board. Asus boards are fairly feature heavy as well as good quality. MSI boards are also feature heavy but are known to DOA a lot too.

If your mainly gaming then the i5 4690k will serve you well and save you bucks, the i7 will not buy you much in gaming performance for the price over an i5 now days.

I would go with either ASUS boards, the ASUS Z97-AR is a good MB at a good price.

Now I have it narrowed down to at least two, the AR and Gaming 7. As for my purposes, I want to future proof my computer and I will be dabbling into things like runscape botting maybe some video rendering I experimented with Unity 3D (game engine) so my i7 will serve me nicely. The hyperthreading for future games also doesn't hurt. :)
Are you recommending me the AR over the Gaming 7 or you just have no experience with the Gaming 7? The others are all saying MSI :p, also, the Gaming 7 is gigabyte not MSi? -confused-

Ah my bad, I misread that. I know that MSI do a Gaming 7 board as well.

In that case I would probably advise the MSI or Asus. I and others have had bad experiences with Gigabyte, and they're fairly over priced in terms of features.

I just picked up a bundle from Micro center. 4790k and the AR board and couldnt be happier. I have owned several ASUS boards and never had a single problem out of them. MSI on the other hand, I have never had any luck out of. Every one I have ever owned has been junk. I havent bought one in years though. You cant go wrong with an ASUS board though. Great features, great temps and stable at 4.6ghz. Also the Asrock boards are pretty good. My father in law has used several. They have their issues but when it comes to features and overclocking stability they have been great boards.

I know price doesn't dictate quality but the MSI Gaming 7 is at new egg for $150, and wouldn't it be better than the one you linked me that is $100, whereas in the bundle I can get it for the same price?
EDIT: the one in bundle is gigabyte not MSI*
