So I'm interested in buying a new hard drive for my PC and every hard drive I look at, most of them say DVR or DVR/HD. I was curious what it meant so I looked around and all I could find was the DVR that relates to TV recording. So, that being said, I'm wondering what DVR means when in regards to hard drives.

Solution
Drives designed for DVR & security surveillance camera recorders use are typically optimized for sequential performance. While they will work in a desktop environment it is not recommended and they usually fail early in thier life.

This would be for drives like WD Purple & Surveillance , or Seagate Video & Surveillance drives... You might also see acronyms like SVR (surveillance Video Recorder) or SDVR also.
