Hello everybody!

My old fella needs some new parts. It's a '09 build and now I'm feeling that it's obsolete since I'm having severe FPS drops and ingame lag.

Here's what I've got:

MoBo: Asus P5QC
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz
RAM: G.Skill 2 x 2GB DDR2 800 MHz
GPU: Radeon HD4850 512MB
Power: Corsair 550W
HD: Samsung Sata 160GB
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212
Case: Cooler Master Elite 333

Since my MoBo supports DDR3 RAM, perhaps it can be something to consider. I'm thinking about getting a Q6600 since it's the best quad-core LGA775 processor out there but the E8400 seems to be a very good option too. I need advice and suggestions for CPU, GPU and RAM, as I'm building around the P5QC.

I need the best cost/benefit parts out there, so help me out guys!

Since I've got a bestial cooler and my case is very clean, I'm willing to overclock a bit, if needed.

Here are some pictures of the rig.

Thank you!

I mean honestly I would just consider new board processor due to little price difference to lga 1150. If youre leaning more towards the q6600 and changing little as possible then find ddr3 modules that are compatible.

Thank you so much for showing up!

First thing to consider is that I'm from Brazil, so building a new reliable rig would cost me at least R$3,000 or something like US$1,300. I'd say my budget is something like US$350 or R$1,000, so I'm definitely going for a second hand CPU and therefore, upgrading the LGA775 seems the best option for me.

Thank you for the answer!

The Q6600 is currently my #1 choice because performance wise, I believe it's going to be a huge boost to the system.

But let's not talk about overclock just yet, let's consider stock aspects first.

What RAM and GPU would you recommend to combo with the Q6600?

Wolf, I'm very glad you showed up.

I've been reading for some advice of yours in other threads for a long time, and I'm definitely sure you can help me.

Thanks for the suggestion, the Q9650 is indeed a beast but it's extremely hard to find in Brazil. Only listing I can find for it is on local eBay for US$195 or R$545. Any other options?

What about GPU and RAM?

Great rig mate, I really apreciate it. But buying things outside my country would be a little bit complex because I'd need my proxy on US to bring them to me. I'm not sure he can travel with so many parts.

That's definitely what I'm looking for mate.

I need to upgrade this rig instead of going for a complete new PC, cause I won't be able to afford one until the next year, at least.

I don't have a Newegg or something like that in Brazil, so even though user turbopiki's build looks awesome, I wont be able to get it here for such a cheap price. Taxes here easily reach +50%.

I'm just looking for a small but reliable boost, you feel me? I can get a Q6600 for US$80, but I still need a GPU and RAM.

if you going to buy a q9650 ( 200$ us ) you are better to buy a new combo i5 4460 + asrock h97 anniversary

Great!

Here's the deal, between the Q8200 and the Q6600 I'd go for the Q6600 because they cost about the same. The Q8300 seems great, but in order to decide what processor I'm going to, I need an answer.

In order to boost FPS and performance in-game, should I look for which components first?

■ CPU then GPU;
■ GPU then CPU.

What I'm asking essentially is, what current component of my rig is better, GPU or CPU?

Thanks for the suggestion, I like my casemod too!

Regarding the Q9650, I'm not considering it because it's gonna eat +50% of my budget and I'd still in need of a GPU + RAM. I'm currently looking at the Q6600 and the Q8300.

Here's our local eBay.

US$1 = R$2,85

The Q6600 is still the best processor I can get, for US$85.

But I've got a question for you: How bad is my current HD4850?

Perhaps a "processor only upgrade" is gonna give me the boost I need and in this case, I wouldn't need a new GPU.

Therefore, I could go for a better processor (i.e. Q9650) and keep my HD4850, but I would still need more RAM.

Maybe I should go for the [strike]ATi HD5850[/strike] (not compatible) and a Q6600?

Or going for the Q9650 and +RAM would be better?

What Nvidia card is similar to the HD5850?

Help!

The only problem is that the GTX 760 is US$320 here.

Perhaps I should buy a new processor only and hope for some FPS boost?

What about some RAM?

I'm not being able to find a good PCI-E 2.0 x16 GPU.

That was great advice!

But assuming that the CPU load is ok, what should I do in order to find if my current bottlenecker is the GPU/RAM?

i would not bother with the ddr3 ram and just stay with the ddr2. i have an older q6600 system with 4 gb of ddr2 ram paired with an r9-270 and it games really well. my kids play at 1080p on high settings for the most part and enjoy the experience daily. i don't think the ddr3 ram will increase the overall performance as much as spending the money on a better gpu will.

spend the extra on the better cpu like the q8*** series or a better gpu for max benefit.

If your GPU is running near 100% most of the time and your CPU load is less than 80% then you have a GPU bottleneck and a graphics card upgrade will provide an immediate and noticeable performance increase.

There is a point where using a GPU that is too powerful for a specific weak CPU will lead to a CPU bottleneck because the CPU is unable to feed data to the GPU at a quick enough rate..

A GPU bottleneck is normal even for systems using the most powerful CPUs and GPUs on the market.

I'm struggling a bit in CS:GO hahaha!

Well, the HD5850 is PCI-E 2.1 x15 while the P5QC seems to accept PCI-E 2.0 x16 only.

Thank you so much for this table dude, I think the GTX 560 + Q6600 upgrade seems to be a great combo price wise.
