Hey everyone,

This is my first build and I think I need some help on something that I can't find the answer to.

I purchased the Raijintek Tisis but am unclear as how to install correctly as it has a PWM fan and a 3 pin and not sure where to plug each fan into my Asus Sabertooth Mark 2. The MB has a 4 pin CPU Fan connector and a CPU OPT Fan connector, so I was planning on the PWM into the CPU Fan and the 3 pin connector into the CPU OPT Fan connector. Is this correct? If I go this route, will the 3 pin fan always run at full speed as it does not have the "control" wire?

Also, why would they mix 2 different types of fans?

List of parts below:
I5-4690k CPU
Raijintek Tisis Black
Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2
Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600
WD Caviar Blue 1 TB
PowerColor R9 290x
Phanteks Enthoo Pro White
EVGA 750W G2

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Solution
Those are the right headers. The default BIOS setting for those headers should be Auto, which will auto-detect the fan type and adjust control accordingly, although you may need to set it yourself. The CPU_OPT header is slaved to the CPU-FAN, so whatever duty cycle is set for the 4-pin fan should be mimicked by the 3-pin.

If the 2nd fan is a 3 pin fan, and the connector on the MB is a 4 pin, which of the 4 pins do I leave exposed? Does that make sense?

See page 3-7 of your manual for BIOS fan settings. Also, I think your MB has ASUS AI SUITE 3 which has incredible fan control stuff. If you haven't installed it, you should! I think this is the link:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/AISuite3_Win7-8-8-1_SA-Z97-MARK1-2_VER10079.zip

Or go to the page at the ASUS site for your MB and browse through the downloads under the SUPPORT tab. It's under DRIVERS and TOOLS > UTILITIES:

http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_Z97_MARK_2/

Check out the YouTube videos on Fan Xpert 2 for a good overview of all the fan goodies.
