GTA IV Very Slow on PC

Hello everyone,

Whenever I play GTA IV on PC it is very slow and gives about 15-25FPS when outside and 40-60FPS when inside.

System Specs:
CPU: AMD A4-5300 3.5GHz
GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 960 G1 Gaming 2G GDDR5
RAM: 8GB 1600
Power Supply: Cosair CX600 600W

I have installed the LCPD:FR, ELS 8, and vdh Police Helper mods to the game. I have heard that GTA IV is a poorly optimized game but it should at least produce playable frame rates with my GPU. Also, when in the graphics settings I can put the graphics up to max and still get the same frame rates as low graphics settings. (10-25FPS)

Any way I can increase FPS?

EDIT: Also, forgot to mention when in the graphics settings it shows under resource usage I have 306/3837 MB when my GPU has 2G, it also says that my graphics settings are near, or exceed the suggested resource limits for your system. Which doesn't make sense because 306 isn't even close to 2048 or 3837.

Try reducing the view distance in your game settings. If its happening just when your outside, then its probably related to that. Disable any AA, if you have it enabled as well.

Your CPU might be the issue here... GTA IV is a very CPU demanding game. Running my QX6700 @3.4Ghz I'd barely get 40 solid.

What are you using that shows your resource usage, and what is telling you that you're close to exceeding?

It's picking up shared memory, so it'll display more than just your VRAM. As far as the resource usage, ignore it. Sometimes games have erroneous detections (like Skyrim thinking my GTX 970 wasn't supported).

Did you try turning down the field of view?

could be driver issues or the game is just too much for your pc. try lowering the settings. if that helps it might be a good idea to buy a cpu if you can but if not just keep the settings lower.

I downgraded my game to version 1.0.4.0 and now I can run with medium settings at 40FPS!

Uninstall any mods u have.Then install patch 1.0.2.0 or something like that.After that,go to start in the left corner.Then search for 'run' (without quotes).And type 'msconfig' (without quotes).Then go to (services) tab.Then look for (windows event log),(windows event collector).Disable both of em.then apply & ok.The Game Will Be Faster Like Hell!!!! use any settings in the ingame graphics option.Smoothest experience!!.It worked for me.If it works for u, just THANK me in comment
