Will a 500W PSU power this GPU?

Solution
Maximum current draw on this system (mostly on the +12V rail) is around 385W or 32A.
This power supply is rated at 480W or 40A on the +12V rail.
This is about 80% of the rating, which is about as high as you should go but it is ok.
The quality of the supply is reasonable, you should be fine.

It's definitely not recommended, but if you really want this card and are willing to take risks, go for it, but know you'll have to get a new power supply ASAP. I'd recommend at least a 550 or 650 to get room to breathe...

Tell me your system specs.

Yeah no... Just play it safe and invest in a better PSU. It's for the better, trust me.

The efficiency of the new Nvidia cards is great, but they don't really have an equivalent card for the R9 280X.
The R9 280X is faster and has more video memory than the GTX 960, making it a clear winner for performance. The downside of couse is 250W TDP rather than 120W for the GTX 960.
To get an Nvidia card better than the R9 280X, you need to jump up to the GTX 970. This card is a long way ahead of the R9 280X in performance and still only has a TDP of 145W, but it is also considerably more expensive.
If you can afford the GTX 970 then it is a better choice. If not, the R9 280X is good.

The 280X does have more memory but its really not that big of a performance leap from the gtx 960. The efficiency and cooling capabilities of the gtx 960 really allow you push this card for a higher degree OC profile which is helpful, all im saying is that its a good card for a resonable price. Hell im some instance the gtx 960 outdoes the 280X, check it out:

What is it with video reviews? Do these people not know how to make a chart?

The Tom's hardware review came out with the R9 280X ahead in all benchmarks:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-960,4038-4.html

This, together with only supporting 2GB of VRAM, is enough for me to say the R9 280X is the better card in any situation where power usage and noise are not major selling factors.

My friend let me have his corsair 600W PSU, will that be enough?

600W is plenty.
I'm guessing it a a Corsair CX600 which is ok.

OK THANK YOU and the reason why im going with the 280x is because i can get for $150 on craiglist. If it wasnt the case i would go for the gtx 960. So the 280x is a better card performance wise?
