There are two things you can do to help optimize your speeds. First, is to run spyware scans to remove tracking cookies. One of the best is SuperAntiSpyware FREE Edition.

The second thing you can do is buy your own Cable Modem. Most Cable or DSL modems you lease from your ISP are outdated and most don't even allow you to reach your full speeds. That is something to look into.

Before you buy new equipment you need to go to the speedtest sites and see what you are getting.

If you pay for 10m down and 2m UP and you actually get close to those numbers there is nothing wrong with your hardware. You are getting the maximum speed the provider allows. Many times the equipment can actually go faster and if you pay the ISP more it will run at that faster speed also.

After this anything else is trickery....For example say I have a file that can be compressed...like zip.... you could get a service that would compress the data transmit it and then uncompress the data. If you look at the end file and the time it takes it would appear you transmitted at a higher rate but the compressed version of the file never exceeded the bandwidth you buy. Now if you were to take a file that was already compressed and run it through this service it would not improve the transfer rates at all....in many cases it would add more overhead and actually make it slower.

With video in particular there is no way to get more though a connection. It is a extremely bandwidth intensive application and there is very little you can do about it.
