Hello! Me and my brother plays upstairs in our room. My mother uses her computer and laptop downstairs. The router is around 40cm of the floor. We just recently did that. Me and my brother gets a very low download and upload speed, like 2/1 download/upload. On my mother's computer, she gets 10mbps for both download and upload. Me and my brother's ping remain the same, 20 ping. But recently, after all of these happened, our ping started to spike a lot, and sometimes the spike last for a minute or so. Lag spike, average 300 ping on each spike. Lastly, I would like to say that me and my brother gets disconnected from the wifi for like a split second and reconnects. Thats really annoying since I stream. And no, streaming isn't the cause of this lag. I am using the MSI GE60 2PC Apache, so the stream shouldn't cause any problem.

Please do help because I am desperate.

Wireless N and WPA2 with AES are settings on the router (what you call your 'internet'), you can't change them on your computer, as the router controls all of that. You need to login to the router and change the settings if you can.

Getting it off the ground was a good idea.

Your laptop should be able to get a good signal. Remember that any obstacles between it and the router can cause problems, as I described before.

I will assume you are using wireless connection to your router.

Try moving the router (or your computer) away from any obstacles. In other words, do not put them directly against walls, against cabinets, or near anything that is mostly metal. Also not behind a TV or other electronic device.

Wireless is not perfect, any obstacle can make the signal bad.

Also, what are the wireless settings on your router? What router do you have?

Best settings are:

Wireless N ONLY
WPA2 security with AES encryption

Wireless channel 1, 6, or 11 ONLY for 2.4Ghz

5Ghz can be any channel without conflict.

You can find least congested channels with INSSIDer software, or 'wifi analyzer' app if you have android phone.

I am not really sure about all this kinds of things, but my internet is right next to the wall and way from electronic stuff. Yes I am using a wireless connection. I am using the Maxis Fibre Internet running at 10 download 10 upload on speedtest. My wireless channel is 6. What do you mean by Wireless N and WPA2 with AES? I am using WPA + WPA2 Mixed Mode. Sorry my english isn't good because i am rushing.

Edit: I found out the reason for the low download and upload. The internet was really close the ground so we stack up some shoe boxes to support it. My current problem is the internet keeps disconnecting ONLY on my laptop(the MSI one).

Thanks for the reply. My router is currently downstairs while my laptop is upstairs, so there will be a lot of obstacles. Also, my brother plays upstairs and doesn't experience any sudden disconnect. I stream a lot, so the sudden disconnect cause a lot of problems. So how do I access to my router settings?
