Hello Tom's Hardware community, this is my first post!

I have a nasty problem, or so I think, first my configuration (for some reason I cannot edit my signature)

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
RAM: CORSAIR CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9, 2 x 4GB DDR3, 1866MHz, 9-10-9-27
SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 256GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970, GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD, 4GB GDDR5, 256bit
PS: ZALMAN ZM700-GV, 700W
CASE: http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=298

I have installed Windows 8.1, at first on the Seagate HDD, then on the SSD, and the AV of my choice was Bitdefender Total Security 2015.

The problem is that whenever I make huge file activities (copying large files, unpacking large files, downloading large torrent files) after a while, usually 10-15minutes I get an error "Windows Memory Low" and right after that everything is black, all the windows applications crashed.

At first the performance was really really slow, so I though it was the HDD, I cleanded it, started fresh, and the same thing hapenned again, then I bought the SSD (sooner that planned) and it is the same, the only difference is that the system doesn't have a bad performance, I just get the LOW MEMORY warning and bam, crash, black.

What I tried:
- in uTorrent's case, I tried working the settings, nothing changed, same behavior both HDD and SSD
- I increased pagefile, nothing

Upon inspecting the processes I saw that vsserv.exe was the most memory intensive process, holding at any time like 250MB RAM (which seems low) .. but still.

- I ended up uninstalling the antivirus, and threw another large file in uTorrent (25-40GB), and the behavior is the same.

-------------------------------------

Where am I getting at, I think that there might a problem with my DDR ? but I am not certain, I am writting here for opinions on this matter, I own a MacBook Pro and another PC and stuff like this doesn't happen, and both configurations are much slower than this rig here.

What could the issue be ?

In BIOS I set the RAM clock at 18.6 to achieve 1866MHz, the DDR's speed. What could I be doing wrong ?

Thanks for your time, and if I didn't follow some guidelines or I need to move the thread somewhere else, please bring it to my attention.

Solution
In Windows 8.1, press the key combination WIN + Q, and type "System". Next, click Advanced System Settings in the top left, and click Settings under the Performance tab. Under the Advanced tab of that window, click Change under Virtual Memory. It is possible that your Pagefile is disabled. Even on systems with plenty of RAM the low memory error occurs because RAM in use + cached memory = ~90% of total RAM.
