Hey guys, my brother and I are having trouble with his computer crashing at seemingly random times, and we have yet to figure out the reason. Any ideas on what might be the cause would really help.

Here is my brother's description of the issue:

"At times the computer will instantly shut down and restart, no matter what I'm doing. There's no logging off, no freezing, nothing; it's like someone pulls the plug, and the next thing I know it's rebooting. Sometimes it seems completely random, other times it seems tied to an action (i.e. as soon as I click "join game" or, "close program"... though, it still seems to be mostly random). Sometimes I can run the machine for hours before this happens, other times it will happen every 2-10 minutes. Sometimes it will restart, then restart again before windows can even boot up.

It seems random, and I can't re-create the problem. It just happens. I've also noticed that sometimes, I'll notice an ever-so-slight glitch out on the screen the instant before this happens. I thought it was a software related issue, so I completely re-installed windows (no back up, no system restore, a completely fresh install), but the problem still persists, so I'm assuming it's hardware related."

A mystery indeed, so does anyone have any insight on what might be causing this issue? Since he did a fresh install of Windows 7, my only thought for now is that it may be a Power Supply Unit failure, or perhaps another faulty piece of hardware. Thanks!

The computer specs:

CPUI: Intel i5 2500K
RAM: 8GB G.SKILL DDR3 1600Mhz
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 560 Ti
MOBO: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
PSU: PC Power and Cooling Silencer MKII 650W

Solution
i5-2500k at what voltage and speed? Temperatures?
Memory running at stock speeds? Voltage?
GTX 560Ti is a possible source of issues if it is close to dying.
That particular PSU was made by Sirtec or Highpower depends who you ask. But it seemed to do well in reviews.

If you have parts available, start swapping them out to see what could be the issue. I would start with power supply, then GPU. (Test the GPU in another system to see if it causes crashes)
