when i first built my pc (my build is http://pcpartpicker.com/user/anguslurcott/saved/Z9pzK8 ) I have 8gb ram. When I was doing nothing my memory was normally from 5-10% used up maybe less but now when I turn on my pc and open nothing it has 30%. I'm guessing this is because I have lots of processes being used but I don't know which ones are using the most memory and how to permanantly switch them off without me turning them on.

Thanks for help

Looks like chrome is using most of it.
Also keep in mind the difference in used memory and available memory.
My PC usually had most of its memory in use but the majority of that is available.
What that means is that Windows is using a large amount of the ram for caching so it is in use but if a program requests memory then it will give it up and allow the program to use it.

Okay, you should be fine then. It's a never-ending battle with PC's. After a fresh install, your system will run like a champ, using little to no resources. As time goes on, and you gain more and more programs and software, you're usage will go up.

I recommend CCleaner to remove unnecessary files, and SmartDefrag to keep your storage running well (just no SSD's).

***UPDATE***
I really need help, I did what cosmo said but I might of changed some things I shouldn't of (or that could be entirely unrelated). But i turned off my pc last night and when i turned it on this morning it wouldn't boot and said BOOTMGR image is corrupt, could not boot. Or something. I've inserted my windows disk and stuff and it says that it can fix it or whatever but I will lose files installed by disk or from internet or something.
Can anyone help?

Thanks for the reply, in command prompt I enter bootrec.exe and I am given the options and I type in /FixMbr and hit enter and nothing happens.
