Hi! I did a research on this first and I've found out that mixing of two different rams isn't really recommended. However, doable if some factors are taken into consideration.

Concern:
Currently using Kingston DDR2 KVR800D2N6 2GB PC2-6400 CL6 - 1.8volts
Timings & other details:
Ch: single
NB Frequency: 2008.8 - 2009.2
DRAM Freq: 401.8 MHz
FSB : DRAM: 1:2
Cas/Ras Timings: 6 - 6 - 6 - 18 - 24 CR: 2T

Planning to add my old ram stick Kingston DDR2 KVR667D2N5 1GB CL5 - 1.8volts
Timings 7 other details:
Ch: single
NB Frequency: 2008.8
Dram Freq: 334.8 MHz
FSB : DRAM: 3:5
Cas/Ras Timings: 5 - 5 - 5 - 15 - 20 CR: 2T

Is it possible that these specs work & operate together?
I'd really appreciate the help. :)

Thanks in advance!

Solution
it depends. they will have to run at 667 for both. run cpu-z and check the jdecs on the ddr2 800. it should have at least 2 lower timings, 1 for 667 and 1 for 533. if the jdec for 667 matches the latency timings on the other stick of 667 you should be able to run both. but you will have to set them up manually to do so.
do not run them on auto or the mmu will mix and match the timings and eventually something will break.

Hi HEXiT,
Thanks for the reply! Just did what you mentioned and after I ran CPU-Z here's what I got. Here's a link to the cpu-z screenshot for easier viewing. http://www.mediafire.com/view/t35iazh54xjd01c/CPU%20-%20Z%20SS.JPG#

You'll see that jedec #2 has the timings same as the kvr677 stick. This means they can run together right? If so, by you saying that they have to be set up manually, Is that the part where you have to enter bios to make the adjustments? I haven't done this ram changes before, so if you can add and share a few details on doing it, it would be really great.

My last question then becomes; when I succeed on adding the 1gb 677 ram, total of 3gig memory both running on 677 frequency & timings, will it really make an improvement? Considering that my kvr800 2gig "400MHz" will be adjusted to match the 677 "333Mhz"?

yes mate you will have to go into bios to set the ram up manually. but i dunno what motherboard you have so i cant say where to go and what to adjust. its not that complex in most cases.

the tighter timings will make up for some of the decreased overall speed. you will see a slight improvement on memory intensive programs as your system wont need to use the page file as much.
in some situations you may notice a decrease in performance such as in some games. if this is to much of an issue you could always try and overclock the 667 ram up to 800 and loosen the timings to match the ddr2 800's 6-6-6-24. not recomended if your ram doesnt have heat spreaders.

Heat spreaders! That's good idea come to think of it! I forgot those exist. Thanks for mentioning that!

I think this would be my last response to this thread. You've given me great information on this, thanks a bunch!
Just one last time, I just want to know in your opinion, say I have those heat spreaders.. Rather than underclocking the 800 to match 667, would it be a better idea to overclock 667 to match the 800 timings?

will it do better or will it just decrease the life span of the 667 stick?

Again, thank you! Really appreciate your help.

it depends on the quality of the ram chips. there wont be that much difference over all to be honest. so the safer option is to run them at 667. if your not that bothered and willing to risk it then oc the 667 and see if it works. it really is a guess.
i know my old ddr2 could do another 100mhz on top of he 800 it was set at on my old athlon x2 build, but i was using ocz gold which at the time was very decent oc ram. kingston on the other hand was cheap budget ram.
if i were you i wouldnt want to be spending more money on such an old build so i would say play it safe and run the system on 667 timings. better to have a working system with a slight impairment than no system at all.
anyways good luck...

Yeah, you certainly got a point there. So 667 for both it is!
Thank you! You guys here really help a lot of people! Ciao and God bless!
