Hello everyone. Im new here on this forum and this is my first thread.

My PC shuts down and reboots automaticlly just before POST / BIOS

My setup:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Gigabyte GA-z97x-Gaming 3
i5-4690k @ 4.2 Ghz @ 1.285 vCore ( CM hyper 212 eVo) 25-33c idle / 70-75c full load
Corsair XMS3 1333Mhz 8GiG
nVidia GeForce GTX 680 2GiG
Corsair HX 750w
Intel SSD 120GiG

I first encountered the problem a month or two ago. When i tried to start the computer in the morning it rebooted 1-2 times before booting up normally. Didnt think much of it but this weekend i put my pc in sleep-mode and when i tried to start it it just "boot-looped". Dont know whats wrong.

I bought my mobo and CPU about 5 months ago.

I have been reading alot on forums many here on tomshardware. Here is a list of the things ive tried.

1. Clearing CMOS
2. Took mobo battery out for 30 min
3. Testing all RAM modules invuvidually
4. tried "breadboarding" - put mobo on mobo-box with only CPU, cooler, PSU and RAM connected and the same problem occured.
5. Tried another PSU (650w)
6. tried another mobo ( GA-z97-HD3)
7. Spend a long period of time checking CPU socket with flashlight and magnifying glas. Saw no bent pins
8. Disconnected all USB units
9. Took out my GTX 680 and plugged monitor in the mobo DVI output
10. unplugged all HDDs / CD-DVD ROMS

Tried most of theese steps without any success.

I am out of ideas, please help me. Would mean so much to me.

I've switched out the motherboard and PSU for new ones so that leaves only the CPU. THe cpu is very new so i think it would be strange is that is broken

I read the manual of the mobo and didnt see anything about beep-codes.

okay, so i have re-seated my ram. And only ONE beep comes after that. Seems to work fine now. Only one beep when i start PC atm.

My situation right now:

Still multiple re-boots when i start PC, but boots properly after a 5-10 reboots.

I got windows to start. Checkd temps on CPU, was OK.

All this with my monitor connected to my motherboard.
Tried connecting my GTX 680 and start windows but it froze on windows login-screen. I then thought it must be the GPU thats gone bad. Disconnected the GPU started the PC (after some reboots) got into windows. Downloaded drivers for Intel HD4600 and installed them. When i restarted my PC the same problem occured as when i had my GTX 680 connected.

Right now im re-installing windows to make sure no drivers are in conflict.

Thanks for trying to help me terry!

Hey terry. Im gonna give u a little update. I manage to re-install windows and get it to boot after a couple of reboots as usual.Tried to reseat the GPU to the motherboard and boot it with the freshly installed windows but same problem came up. Windows froze on the login-screen.

Going over to my friend today and try his old graphics card on my system and see if it starts propery.

A question. Since windows is booting normal now, without any GPU connected to the motherboard. What could be the cause of the reboots? I mean, it starts but not after a couple of reboots wich is really annoying. Tried with my other mobo again to make sure it isnt that thats defective. Talked to a friend and he had a theory that the motherboard thinks it has a GPU connected and tried to "start" it but ultimately cant find it since it noone connected, so it reboots. And it repeats that process "x" numerous of times until it just skips to try find the GPU.

It may be that the graphics card is damaged or that it isn't getting enough power. It is significant that the system operates better without the graphics cad installed. The 750watt power supply should be adequate. How old is it? The power does tend to drop off over the years.

One other thing to check is the graphics source in the BIOS. If it is manually defined as the integrated graphics , it could interfere with using a graphics card. If it is set to auto it should select the graphics card if there is one present in the PCI express x 16 slot.

Another possibility on the graphics card. It may be the graphics card driver that is making it incompatible with the rest of the system.

Last fall I purchased a new Asus Strix GTX 970. I pulled my hair out for over a week trying to get the initial graphics driver updated. It initially wouldn't recognize the card at all. I went through all of the newly released drivers with no luck. Finally, the card began updating the driver . It was even putting the card name in the in the device manager.

Well then the next problem hit. You see that because the graphics card driver was just updated the system needed to be restarted to complete process. It went normally right up to when Windows began loading and the screen went black. The system had black-screened. Now I had to start the system in safe mode in order to recover the system. This scenario went on ad on. I would make a change and then recover. Until more of a last resort, I flashed the BIOS again (I had already flashed the most recent BIOS months earlier) and it worked. By the way the Geforce driver that worked for me was 344.75. There are a few new ones since that driver, but I'm sticking with that one for a while.

I checked your motherboard specifications. It does come equipped with integrated graphics. So the theory about the system looping because it can't find the integrated graphics is not likely.

Like Vic 40 said, try bringing things back to their default settings if the problem still persists. I assume that you have already gone through the Windows 7 troubleshooter. If not , try each of the various tests.

Hi johaes93,

I had the same problem yesterday. I assume that your problem might be solved though it's from a very old date but I couldn't stop myself to help you because I was in pain too :) I had tried everything you listed in your post. No go.

For me there's only one option;

BIOS update. Try to pull one of the RAM or change the slots of the ram and reach the bios. Then update the bios to F7. I think your bios is outdated (maybe version F3) and it will update the bios to F7. My PC has almost the same specs with yours, I tried everything including chaning power supply, cpu, graphics card, pulling usb, monitors, cmos battery and clear cmos procedures. Only bios update worked.

I hope this solution helps you.
