I need to get a boot ssd for a new build and was wondering if 64gb would be enough, also I assume a 30gb ssd is too small. Do I need a 120 gb ssd for the operating system? finally is the crucial m4 64gb a good ssd

Solution
30 is just enough for windows and a few programs.
64 will be sufficient but if you have much personal files you will have to map it to a different drive. At 64GB you will have to be concerned with disk space.

120 (or 128 depending on drive) is the point where for most users it is enough to not have to worry.

I have previously installed windows 8 on a 40GB SSD and found that the OS and some essential software (Flash, Anti-Virus e.g) takes up about 39GB (this does not include windows updates, browsers or any other apps.). I would recommend 64GB as a bare minimum and at least 120gb if your want it to be future proofed. Hope this helps.

This will depend largely on how you use your computer and budget. What programs are you hoping to install or games?
I would strongly recommend getting a SSD that fits all the programs you are looking at installing + maybe 30%, unless budget is a large concern.

My first SSD I got for my desktop was 120GB and that was good for about 1-2 years, but after that I found it was just a bit to small and I was constantly having to shuttle things around. After upgrading to a 256gb I haven’t had any problems and I can install all my programs to the SSD without having to worry about space.

If budget is a concern you could go with a 64gb SSD as a cache drive. This will give you some performance gains for significantly less and won’t have the same space restrictions.

if the 64 gb was used as a cache drive would my operating system have to go on my hard drive?

As far as dowloading programs goes, times not a huge concern, i already bought a 3tb seagate hard drive
