My PC allows me to choose resolutions that are too high for my monitor to display.

When selecting resolutions I can go above the max resolution my monitor can handle resulting in black screen, this becomes an issue as some programs start in those higher resolutions causing crashes. The tick box saying "Hide modes this monitor cannot display is greyed out and is un-ticked". This is an ongoing issue and installing new drivers does not seem to help. My monitor is a Dell ST2220L. You help would be appreciated thank you.

Yes I have updated the drivers for my GTX 660 ti. Although it recognizes my Monitor as a Generic non-pnp monitor.

what kind of cable are you using? VGA? Try switching to a different cable or a different port.
you could try unplugging the monitor from the power source for a coupleof minutes.
also, how did you install the driver? did you uninstall the previous first?
