The age old question, which video card do you recommend for this set up?

Hello Community. This is what I just purchased from newegg:

CPU: i7-4790K
PSU: 850W EVGA SuperNova
Mobo: AsRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer
Cooler: Corsair H100i
Ram: G.Skill Trident 16gb (2 x 8gb) DDR3 2400
HDD: WD Black Series 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB

All going in my existing HAF 932 Case

So as you can see I am getting pretty much everything with the exception of a video card. My thought process has basically been to wait and see what the R9 3XX ends up being like. Will HBM really be a giant difference and how will the latest technology perform. When it comes out if it doesn't end up performing up to par then it should at least drive prices down some more on the GTX 970.

What do you guys think? Pull the trigger on a R9 290x or a GTX 970 now? Or wait the 4-6 weeks that AMD is estimating to see what the R9 3xx series looks like and also to see if the price of the GTX 970 falls.

You are exactly right Volcano, I know that waiting is probably the best. We can find out how good the new R9 series will be, get an idea of how HBM will perform. Most likely it will drive the price of the 970 down as well.

I just hate that I have all of the items above, and I will be running on my GTX 460Ti LOL

From the research I have done I definitely think the EVGA FTW version is the way to go. So then the question is, do I buy it now, or wait for the R9 3xx series to come out which will most likely drive the price down further on the 970 series?

Probably won't actually. the 970 drove most AMD cards down, and compete with the 290x. THe Flagship of AMD.

As for the 3xx series, It will be released around june/july. Honeslty, I would go with the 970, the 2xx series will most likely be like nvDias 980, but better.

For your build I would try and wait, as hard as it may be to do so.
The AMD 390x is supposed to be out in 4-6 weeks. If nothing else, they may reduce present gpu prices.
Be nice to see how good they really will be.

At this point in time, please DO wait for the new AMD R9 3XX series release. They might bring something very good to the table, especially with the whole HBM Memory dealio.

Wait it is then. Hopefully AMD doesn't have anymore delays on their video card. I am also hoping when it gets released it is close the the $400 mark as well. But who knows maybe the R9 380x will also be a good alternative and outperform the GTX 970.

Thanks community.
