The tower is a custom build with a ASUS PCE-AC68 802.11ac wireless network adapter

-MSI Z87-G45 motherboard
- running windows 8.1 with the most recent driver

-the ISP is Verizon and I'm connected through the WiFI
- there are 10 devices connected to the router. 5 PCs and 5 phones
- when I attempt to connect tot he internet it says that the connections are available and it shows the connections around me. When i attempt to connect to a network though it says that the PC can't connect to the network. I even tried hosting my own virtual network on my laptop and the tower was unable to connect to that as well.

i installed the drivers from asus and i looked at the update for the card as well.

as a side note this all began happening last night around 12 hours ago. This might be related to the recent snow but all the other devices in the house are working fine and connected.

well the odd thing is is that the wireless card is able to detect the nearby wifi networks but when i try to connect to one it just says "can't connect"

Update: I installed the Ethernet driver and made a direct connection throughout the house but the wireless card still doesn't work. In device managers the status says the adapter is working and its able to detect nearby networks. at this point i don't know whats going on.

I am, posting as I recently had Internet Problems with my Acer laptop, running Windows 8.1. I recently changed routers in my house, I connected all my other devices with no issues. When I connected my laptop, it connected to the network, but I could get no internet. I could see all my other devices connected when I looked at my home network. I tried a few things

Open a command window, make sure you have admin rights.
type command netsh wlan show profiles

This will give you the details of what your computer has logged onto for networks, the network adaptor stores all of these. you may recognize a list if you log onto work / friends or families networks. Any you do not recognize or you no longer use you can delete.
command netsh wlan delete profile name="ProfileName" (where ProfileName is the profile in question. If you want to clear them all except the connection you are using that would be the best for troubleshooting.

Another technique to try is, in the right side slide search is to type inetcpl.cpl (searching for internet properties)
tab Connections - LAN Settings - unchecked the box for Automatically detect settings

control panel or right click the start menu
open up the Networks Connections
Configure your network card - mine was Broadcomm 802.11n Network Adapter
select the "Driver" Tab - Then click Disable - wait 30 seconds - and then enable

Reset your computer

so far so good with mine, I hope I don't have the same issues ever again!!
