well how does the optimizer in GeForce experience work?? does it just change settings that you can change yourself or mess with unchangeable settings like render distance??? does it change stuff behind the senes or change stuff I already do myself???

I have used it. It just changes stuff you can do yourself in the game. It's good for people that don't want to mess with things, but you can do a better job yourself because of your personal preferences about what is good to you verses what Nvidia thinks is the "optimal" settings. Plus, it likes to crank up some settings that don't make a difference in my case like AA x 1,000,000 when 2 or 4 is fine by me.

It edits the graphics configuration file for that program to something that the test lab has determined is "optimal"

It won't change anything behind the scenes that you can't access in the regular game's graphics menu, with the exception of DSR.

However, you can also tweak the graphics settings in GeForce Experience, making obsolete the ingame graphics menus altogether.
