Sorry for the late reply I'm trying to get it under 600 dollars so I'm using ebay because he doesn't mind used parts as long as they work. Also I'm sorry to mention it's a gaming pc and I'm getting him a 500 watt power supply. Also the cpu can be anything from 100 to 150.

I'm always torn between the G3258 and the FX-6300 in terms of recommendation for a budget build. The two cores on the G3258 are good enough for most games now, but I can't see a near future where 2 cores will cut it. My recommendation is the FX-6300 if you're willing to pay $99.

Also, you haven't provided a budget for the CPU, so I'm assuming a max of $100.

If you can spend substantially more, get the i5-4460.

Theese are ok for gaming in medium or sometimes in high.
And what budget do you have for your cpu?
I won't reccomend the g3258, try an intel i3-4160 or i5-4690.
