Gamepads: Xbox 360 vs Xbox One

Hello everyone!
I'm sorry for such a common question, and I know it's a very personal/subjective topic.

Still, after watching several reviews, I decided that I want a pair of xbox controllers for my PC.
I will be using them for racing, guitar hero-like games, some sports (rarely), and platform games like TowerFall or Nidhogg.

I can't decide if I want to have xbox 360 or xbox one controllers, though.
And for me aesthetics are very important. My build is black+green.

- So what do you think would look best with my black Phantom 820?
- And what are the pros/cons of each one?

Also, I've been looking mainly at wireless controlers, but what do you think about wired vs wireless?

Solution

You can do the wireless version of the 360 controller. I personally used wired over wireless whenever I can. There is no receiver for the xbone controllers at this time that I know of, so wired is the only way to go at the moment.

I say 360 controller. I bought the xbone controller but it connects via a flimsy micro usb. If you have a cell phone, you know how weak and crappy this is. Get a wired 360 controller and save the hassle.

Well, xbox 360 controllers are white, and xboxone controllers are black.
I prefer the feel of the xboxone controller over my xbox360 ones.
And I think the micousb connection thing is a very minor point and only applicable if you're rough with your controller or have kids or something.

i bought an xbox one wired controller (not as easy to find as i had hoped) and it works great with win 7 and the win 10 preview. after a lot of reading i decided against the wireless ones as they seem to be a lot of headaches and not worth the regular downtime.

the micro usb problem tical brought up is from a wireless controller that can be plugged in for charging. as he said this is not the best way and it won't last long. whichever one you go with, get a wired one. i can also tell you that i could not find a 360 wired controller new or used in my city and i spent a day driving around looking. this was the main reason i got a xbox one controller cause i could find that one new. they do have all kinds of various designs and colors for both controllers so you should easily find one that fits your color scheme.

Well, where I live, both 360 and One controllers only come in black nowadays.
I've also been looking for a pair of white 360 controllers for another build (white Phantom 410), and have not been able to get them.

And I hadn't realised that xbox one wireless controllers wouldn't connect wirelessly with a PC. So I guess that settles it. If I want wireless I'll have to get 360.

Why do you prefer wired over wireless? I used to have a pair of wireless 360 controllers and never had any kind of problem...

when reading to see what i wanted to use it seemed to be a majority had a problem with it dropping connection and sometimes input lag issues. i did not try one myself so i can't say for sure, but there was a lot of different sites saying this was a problem. so i just went for a wired one to avoid any issues.

if you have been able to use the wireless with no problems then i'd see no reason to say not to do it again. just based on what i read and heard, i chose not to risk any issues and went for the wired one right off. pc is sitting on my desk and it has a 9ft cable so i got plenty of room to roam :)
