I am nearing the point where I am going to order a new PC from Origin and I am hoping the community here can help me figure out if new video cards are warranted.
I have two nVidia Titans, the original ones, and I want to know if it is worth it to upgrade to two 980 GTX's or not. I am not gaming in 4k but I do want to be sure I can run this config in games at ultra settings for some time. I am ordering a 5960X, an Asus Rampage V, 16 gig of 2800 MHz memory and a 512 Gig SSD for the OS. I want to have a drool worthy system but if my existing Titan's are going to be good enough in the long term I would save the money on the 980's. I also thought about the newer Titan Black and Titan Z but they are not Maxwell and I would like to have the newest tech if I upgrade the video. Please let me know what you all think and thank you in advance for any help.

980 is better than Titan, but one Titan should be enough in any game.I personaly have GTX 580 1.5GB and I have underclocked+undervolted by a very huge amount it and play BF4 multiplayer almost maxed out,5960X should be enugh for next 3-4 years :D

Keep the titans until you actually feel that your are not getting the performance you desire. You can always change them out. AMD and NVIDIA both have new cards coming out, if nothing else they should lower the price of the 980's. I my opinion they are a bit steep.

Could be a reasonable compromise. Depends what you would get for you two titans.
Performance wise I do not think you will see much difference, but you will go to a one solution.
DX12 may take some tweaking before we know it's improvements.

I just think the card (Titan X) is over priced compared to what else is available and what you currently have.
