Modern Warfare 3 Is Done For?

Hello all you beautiful people, I need some advice at the moment.

So, I know this game is ancient and is the probably the cause of this problem, but every single time I try to load up Modern Warfare 3 on my console(PS3) it freezes. And I mean FREEZES. Like my whole system. The only way I can quit the game and un-freeze it is to do a complete PS3 restart, meaning I have to get up and push the power button. Even then, it takes a good five minutes to actually restart the system, as it simply remains at a black screen until it finally restarts.

Things I've tried to fix the problem with, but didn't work:

Clearing the GameData folder for Modern Warfare 3
Disabling theater mode
Tilting the console on its side and horizontally
Complete restore on my PS3

Things I know are not causing the problem:

Overheating (The PlayStation is well aired out and not hot while frozen. No pun intended)
The PlayStation itself (This happens on no other game, even games older than MW3)

What I think the problem is:

Based on my research, I believe the disk itself is what's causing the problem even though it oesn't have a scratch on it and is not that old. I bought a new disk for MW3 in early 2014, and it stopped working last August, so it didn't even last a year. It seems unlikely, but I think the problem lies somewhere within the disk.

It seems a bit ridiculous I would need to buy a whole new game, which is still $40 on the Playstation store even after 4 years, but if this is what I need to do then I can do it. I'm pretty sure the game is cheap at gamestop. I just want to make sure there is no a problem elsewhere befroe I purchase a new disk.

If no other games do this, and if you can reproduce the results on another PS3 then i guess it is the game disk.

And shouldn't you have moved on to one of the newer COD games anyways? Isn't that the whole point of the series, you buy a new game every year/6 months or however often they fart those games out.

It's also very odd that the disks are dying out that fast, as i've still got some perfectly playable, and pretty horribly scratched, PS1 games that work fine on my ps3.
