I'm not concernced about GPU temps, or wattage requirement or etc.. As I will water-cool my GPU

Current PSU is a Xmigatek 700w.

Upgrading my 7950.

Yeah I mean all signs kinda point to it right? I've had AMD since my 6870, so It's been bout 4 years and I've enjoyed AMD.. I just thought maybe save some money and go the R9 290 Vapor -x route and OC it to a 290x, and it'll be equivalent to a 290x/970 and the little I saved I was going to get a NZXT Kraken G10 to water-cool it.

290x lighting is my personal choice. Beside the fact it beats the 970 in fair benchmarks (not nvidia biased ones, or amd biased for that matter) its a stronger card. I might have been inclined to say the 970 but that was before Omega drivers rolled out and the news about 3.5gb ram on 970.

Btw watercooling the lightning card should be interesting to say the least.

Yeah that's the ONLY reason I haven't completely jumped into a new 970 is the whole 3.5g ram issue.. I know it's not super terrible but it does bother me. And I feel like with a 290/290x I am future-proofing for the fact of full 4gb and better performance at 1440p/4k displays.

They're all good cards, and you'll probably max out your 60Hz monitors (Vsync) with any of them, it just depends on what you want.

AMD - Cheaper, similar performance

Nvidia - Cooler, more efficient, drivers

Personally I'm not sure Nvidia has " drivers " over amd as, my two friends with 970s have constant nvidia driver failure during gaming/streaming.

Don't let it deter you. I've been running Dying Light in 5760x1200 resolution, which uses anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 gb of VRAM, and had zero issues (besides the ones from Dying Light itself).

Yeah I understand, just irks me a little bit to think for same price, I can get FULL 4gb as well as better higher resolution support.. I do like how nvidia has the whole extra graphic settings as well as on OBS you can stream directly off your GPU.

Stop perpetuating the amd drivers thing. Its dead and buried. The 13.xx drivers from AMD were very stable then 14.2-14.4 were a little unstable on certain cards but now the Omega are again rock solid.

Ahaha, yeah I know I just wanan replace my 7950 badly as over the past weeks It'll randomly go black screen and create like a crazy effect on my monitor, like exorcism is taking over!

If you do, wait for the 4gb models to come out in March.

I always recommend a single, powerful GPU, but that's just my opinion. The 960's perform great in SLI.

Yeah, my buddy tells me I should just save some money and pick up a 770 for $250 at microcenter, but with it being 2gb I feel as it wouldn't be much of an upgrade over my 7950 3gb.

a 770 is on par with a 280x which is a rebranded 7970 ghz ed which is about 10% faster than your 7950 so yeah - waste of money.

A 780 on the other hand is another story.

I'd love to find a cheap 780, but used they're still pretty pricey and without returns and etc buying a used video card is a huge no in my book.

Truly wish my 7950 wasn't going out, It's actually been 4 days and It's been fine since.. Because I feel like a new GPU isn't really an upgrade because there are no games I have issues running.
