Hi everyone,

i have some issues converting my FAT32 harddrive to NTFS.
i know a thing or two of computers so i'm not a complete rookie.

Situation:

• I ran command prompt as admin
• did a disc check (chkdsk D: /F) and everything was ok.
• ran the conversion (covert D: /fs:NTFS), when it ended i got the error "conversion failed".
• i wasn't sure if any program was running from the disc i wanted to convert so i started windows in safe mode with command prompt.
• did a disc check again, the command prompt told me that the disc type was NTFS
• restarted my computer in normal mode and went to see what the disc type was and in windows normal mode it said that it is FAT32

is there some sort of registry i have to update to tell windows that it's a NTFS drive?

What am i doing wrong?
Windows version i'm running is Windows 8.1 and i have more free space on the disc than occupied.

This may be a stupid question but can i just copy all files from the drive an past it to an other drive.
Format that one drive to NTFS with the same name and drive letter and then copy everything back over.

would all my application that i have installed work like before or do i have to reinstall the applications again?

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work, as long as you retain the same drive letter. However, I would be inclined to backup your data to another drive regardless, then attempt the conversion again.
