Hi! Going to follow the Sticky format here:

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: end of March
Budget Range: $1000-1200 USD
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming (MMO, Steam), Video Editing, Image Editing (Photoshop), watching videos
Are you buying a monitor: No
Parts to Upgrade: N/A. New Build.
Do you need to buy OS: No (Win 8.1 Pro)
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Tigerdirect/Amazon/Newegg
Location: City, State/Region, Country - Illinois
Parts Preferences: Intel/Nvidia. Avoiding AMD and Seagate mainly.
Overclocking: Maybe. Not at first but perhaps down the line.
SLI or Crossfire: No
Your Monitor Resolution: 32" HDTV (1366 x 768) HDMI and 19" DELL LCD (1360 x 768) VGA
Additional Comments: Looking to upgrade from my current PC (Pentium G2030 and GT 630 w/4GB RAM) mainly for performance boosts in games. Currently barely able to run games like H1Z1 or Archeage. Lots of lags in TERA and slow loading in games like League or DOTA2. High Res gaming not required (4K or 1440p). Hoping to get a more stable playable fps (hopefully stable 60 fps).

Some parts I've picked out:

Mainly looking for some advice for potentially better/cheaper parts. In particular, WLAN adapter, case, PSU, and case fans. The listed case comes with 2 fans (1 200 mm in front and 1 140 mm in the back) but I'm not sure whether I'd need more and what's good. I have Comcast cable internet, but due to how the PC is laid out, I need to access using wifi (router in a different room) hence the WLAN adapter. I'm not sure about WIFI specifications so if there's a better one out there, please advise.

Also, in regards to RAM, I was initially looking at Corsair's Vengeance Pro but not sure if there's issues as pcpartpicker didn't list the RAM as compatible. Does anyone know if there's any issues with the RAM and my configuration?

I also found G.SKILL RAM that looks to be cheaper for practically the same performance. Which do you think is better to go with? The Corsair or one of the two G.SKILL RAMs? If the G.SKILL, what is the difference between the Sniper series and the Ripjaws X series?

Any additional advice is welcome! Thanks in advance.

MB - Upgraded to an ASUS with WiFi and Bluetooth built-in.
MEM - DDR3-1600 CL9 or lower, or DDR3-1866 CL10 or lower. ...both at 1.5v. The modules below are performance modules being low latency (CL8).
HD - No need for the WD Black when you have an SSD handling the majority of the workload. Look toward a WD Blue to Seagate offering.
PSU - No. XFX or Seasonic, then look toward Antec or EVGA. Skip the Cooler Master units...

no need for wifi, if he needs it he can pay like 20 bucks and get a PCIe wifi card.
anyway, this is my suggestion:

Hi, I saw that the CM V series is highly rated even on this board. I currently use CM PSU which is why I chose this one. Is this one no good?

Is it better to have WLAN adapter as PCI-E, USB, or on board?

Thanks for the WD suggestion, I will probably go with WD Blue instead.

Also, any input on case fans? How many will I need total?

the CM V series is made by seasonic - one of the best (if not the one) PSU makers on this planet. thats why they are good. all of the other CM PSUs are worse.

as for WiFi, it doesnt really matter, just remember that USB is basic and going to take up one of your USB ports, PCIe is faster, but takes up a PCIe 1x (or more) slot, and that integrated WiFi is expensive.

as for fans, if you put 2 intake and 2 exhaust, you should be just fine, as there is not a TON of heat generating components (just a 4690k and a 970).

thanks for the input. Is there a difference between the V series and the VSM series? (I though the SM just means semi-modular, but let me know if there is a quality difference between the two). Since both you and the other person suggested another PSU, I was wondering why the negativity in regards to this.

as for the case fans, I will look into adding an intake on the bottom and an exhaust on top to complement the case.

Also, I noticed you added a D14 instead of the Evo 212. It seems like D14 is a better cooler overall although at double the price and a larger size. I'm primarily worried that it won't fit in the case or have potential issues with the mobo/RAM.

Also, what's the difference between MSI Z97-G55 and MSI Gaming 5?
